The ancient wisdom of Ayurveda teaches us that every moment has its own energy, and some are more potent than others. Brahma Muhurta—the “Creator’s Hour”—is a powerful time that begins about 90 minutes before sunrise.
It’s considered the best time for self-reflection, spiritual practice, and grounding the mind and body, as the world is quiet, energies are balanced, and the mind is most open to new ideas and insights.
(Um yes, I’ll have more of that please.)
Mornings set the tone for the entire day, and a mindful morning routine can bring balance, energy, and clarity to your body and mind.
But did you know that the best morning ritual depends on your dosha type?
Take this quick quiz to find out if your mornings need a Vata, Pitta, or Kapha twist, then discover the ideal practices to energize and harmonize your day.
😴 Whether you wake up during Brahma Muhurta or a little later, these routines will help you start your day with the good energy xo 🤗
Quick Quiz: Which ENERGY is GUIDING YOUR MORNINGS?

C) A bit anxious or scattered, like my mind is already racing
2. How does your body feel in the morning?
A) Heavy and slow, like I need time to get moving
B) Usually I wake feeling energized, but sometimes I’m a bit overheated like my adrenaline feels too high
C) Stiff or achy, or sometimes I feel light-headed
3. How do you feel about exercise in the morning?
A) I usually avoid it altogether, or it takes a lot of effort to start

A) I might reach for my phone to hit the snooze button a few times, and then I’ll lie in bed playing a game or scrolling on it… I stay in bed as long as possible
B) I pick up my phone straight away and usually end up responding to emails, checking my calendar, or jotting down items on my to-do list
C) Sometimes I wake up with anxiety, so I tend to start scrolling right away. Watching a few reels sometimes helps me feel better/distracts me from how I’m feeling

Count up how many A’s, B’s, or C’s you have:
Mostly A’s: You’re likely feeling a Kapha influence in the mornings. 👉 Too much Earth & Water—you're grounded, maybe a little too much! You need movement and stimulation to shake off the morning fog.

Your Ideal Fall morning Routine
For Kapha Imbalance (Mostly A’s)
Kapha mornings can feel heavy and sluggish. Here’s a routine to lift your energy and bring a sense of lightness:
Warm Lemon Water: Start your day with warm lemon water to stimulate digestion and gently wake up your system.
Dry Brushing: Use a dry brush to awaken your body, boost circulation, and create a light, energized feeling as you start the day.
Brisk Full Body Shake with Bhastrika Breath: Stand up and shake your whole body from head to toe, loosening any stagnant energy. Pair this with Bhastrika (bellows breath) by forcefully inhaling and exhaling through your nose in quick bursts for 30 seconds. This jump-starts your energy and leaves you feeling refreshed
For Pitta Imbalance (Mostly B’s)
Pitta energy can make mornings (and then the whole rest of the day) feel intense and driven. Here are a few simple routines to make you feel more chill, without feeling behind:
Room-Temperature Water: Begin your day with a glass of room-temperature water to cool and hydrate, setting a balanced foundation before the day’s activities.
Fresh Air: Spend a few minutes outside in the fresh morning air. Stepping out into nature—even briefly—can help you feel connected and grounded. It gently calms that tendency to “go, go, go,” slowing down your pace and preparing you to move through the day with more ease and flow.
Shower in the Dark: Try showering in low light or even complete darkness to understimulate your senses. This is a practice in pratyahara, or sensory withdrawal, allowing you to turn inward, focus on your breath, and find calm before diving into the busyness of the day. This quiet, grounding start can help you stay centered and prevent the urge to rush into action.
For Vata Imbalance (Mostly c’s)
Vata energy in the morning can feel scattered and anxious. Here’s a routine to help you start the day with calm and warmth:
Warm Breakfast: Start your morning with a nourishing, warm breakfast like oatmeal spiced with cinnamon or nutmeg. This will help settle your digestion and bring warmth to your body, grounding any restless energy.
Self-Massage with Sesame Oil: Before you shower, give yourself a quick self-massage with warm sesame oil. This practice adds warmth and stability to your body, helping you feel centered and calm.
Screen-Free Journaling: Grabbing your screen upon waking might feel good in the moment, but it leads to increased anxiety and overwhelm over time. Opt for a cup of hot water with ginger or some herbal tea, and a quick journal session or brain dump, grounding your energy before the day begins. Let the scattered energy out, don’t bottle it in with more stimulation 😉
Embrace the Power of One Small Ritual
Adding even one intentional practice to your morning can set a ripple effect through your day, creating more balance, energy, and focus. By choosing practices that counterbalance your morning state—warming and grounding for scattered Vata, cooling and calming for fiery Pitta, or energizing and stimulating for sluggish Kapha—you’re helping your body find its natural harmony.
Whether it’s a grounding breakfast, a few moments of fresh air, or a quick journaling session, these small rituals are tailored to meet your unique needs and ease morning imbalances.
These little changes add up to BIG transformations. xo
