Ayurvedic coffee recipe

simple. healing. delicious.

the habit ayurveda

Many health practitioners suggest setting our coffee habit aside. And there are many good reasons for this. Coffee has a different vibe to it, and when a dependency is created, all kinds of mental and physical ‘stuff’ arises. Learn more about that here.

But here’s the thing; I LOVE the taste of coffee! Every so often I find myself back in it’s dark, bitter flavored arms.

Thankfully, I’m not a coffee quitter. I’m a firm believer in everything in moderation, and finding ways to enjoy every. single. thing we love in balanced ways.

As over-consumption leads to disease, so does over-restriction.

In my study of Ayurveda, I’ve gained some deep wisdom on all that supports our human physiology. I’m fascinated by the world of flavors offered by our loving planet, all in support of our organ function, digestion, mental well-being, and over-all body system nourishment.

So I’m uplevelling my coffee game, with some ancient healing herbalism.

THE KEY INGREDIENTS:

Ashwagandha -

Ashwagandha is one of the most important herbs in Ayurveda, and is the most commonly used and extensively researched adaptogen herb in the world. It has been used for over 3,000 years to relieve stress, increase energy levels and improve concentration. As a result of modern scientific study, it’s valued for its thyroid-modulating, neuroprotective, anti-anxiety, antidepressant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Raw Cacao -

Probably definitely the most delicious of all the superfoods, raw cacao powder (this is the unprocessed version of cocoa) is another powerhouse addition to your coffee. Packing 40 TIMES the antioxidants of blueberries, and boasting the HIGHEST plant based source of iron on the planet, raw cacao is also one of the highest plant-based sources of magnesium, the most deficient mineral in the Western world (magnesium helps turn glucose into energy enabling your brain to work with laser-sharp clarity and focus). PLUS: Cacao is a great source of four scientifically proven bliss chemicals – serotonin, tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylethylamine.

In a world where we’re constantly seeking balance between enjoying life and being healthy, this here feels like a pretty darn good attempt.

This self loving cup has brought me so much joy. It’s honestly become a ritual. It’s the kind of bevy that deserves to be enjoyed slowly, while pondering the wonders of life, gratitude journaling, tarot card reading. Take caution y’all, this just might be the gateway drug to self care.

Do you LOVE this recipe? This is what Ayurveda teaches. Little recipes, little daily actions, little supports for optimal function of the body and mind, which in turn creates the life you always wanted.
