    The Strength of Pitta Dosha

The fire of pitta brings passion to our lives.

PITTA has the qualities of fire and water, Its role in the body is related to all things metabolism. It’s your fire, the functions of your digestive organs, your biochemical processes, cell regeneration & transformation, the heat you generate, and the brightness in your eyes. Pitta gives you drive. It gives you passion.

Individuals with healthy amounts of pitta dosha are the visionaries of our world. The ones with cunning wit & humor, the ones who light up a room!

Good Pitta brings about a warm, bright personality that draws people to you and melts their hearts. A pitta woman is an alchemist, taking all situations and transforming them into whatever will serve you.

You see people and events clearly, making it easy to discern the next steps in a task and delegate effectively. You thrive on structure and organization (and you wouldn’t have it any other way).

people with a lot of pitta are born leaders

Pitta-type people are highly skilled, but it's possible to have too much of a good thing…

Ayurveda teaches that "Like Increases Like". Too much fire leads to you (and those around you) getting burned.

You might find yourself lacking in the patience department when it comes to the efficiency of others, whether you're redoing something a coworker did incorrectly, or waiting for your kid to tie their shoes. It feels like other people's minds aren’t as sharp as yours, which can lead you to be sharp with them.

You can't help but burn the candle at both ends. Always a “doer”, workaholism takes over. You're good at overdrive ... but overdrive isn't good for you.

    The Struggles of Pitta

IF YOU HAVE TOO MUCH Pitta, YOU MIGHT BE STRUGGLING WITH:

    • feeling short tempered

    • "snapping" at your kids / your spouse or loved ones

    • being excessively judgmental toward others or yourself

    • feeling resentful

    • refusing to take a break; pushing yourself to exhaustion because "there's so much to get done"

    • feeling inflamed. Getting migraines or heartburn/reflux.

These struggles are markers of pitta imbalance.

If this sounds like you I’ve got good news; Ayurveda provides us with simple tools to help you cool off and chill out, without adding a bunch of tasks to your to-do list.

And it’ll be easy for you, pitta, because you’re inherently super motivated and tend to finish what you start. When you find answers, you take action! Clearing up your imbalances helps you shine for all to see.

    Finding your balance

Feeling the burn of too much Pitta?

If your “passionate vibes” have turned a little more “ragey” here’s a few key lifestyle shifts to keep you cool as a cucumber.

Get outside at least once per day

Nature has all the opposite qualities of Pitta. It’s cool, calming, and grounded. In Ayurveda, we seek to bring balance through opposites. Folks with healthy amounts of Pitta are great at taking action. You’ve got that on lock. What you actually need is INACTION. Embrace doing nothing - understand that you’re actually doing something when you’re doing “nothing.” (seriously how great is this assignment?)

Lay off the sugar and maybe dial back that coffee

(Just a little, don’t hate me). Coffee, hot sauce, and sugar are like lighter fluid for Pitta. These foods dial up your internal heat, which in turn dials up pitta aggression, your drive, and your tendency to burn the candle at both ends. Pitta imbalance sometimes leads to heartburn, red rashes, indigestion, or migraines, and these things will only make it worse. If giving up coffee feels like giving up on life, try reducing your intake of coffee to one cup a day, or better yet, cut it with an herbal coffee like dandelion and chicory root blend.

    Try a non-competitive physical activity

Pitta-dominant folks need to find space for joy. They need to dance and let themselves be free. No need to take up running or join a rugby team - that will only create more heat, and you’ve got enough of that. Try the chill activities you might’ve avoided up until now, like yoga or meditation. And no, my dear, I do not mean hot yoga.
