I'm into week 3 of my current personal 28-day Ayurvedic protocol,
which only includes 2 things: lifting weights every day to build strength, and doing self-massage every day to build nervous system resilience
(create your custom protocol every month in the Practical Ayurveda community hub under 'start here'),
and WOW my brain really wants to do something else.
Maybe you've experienced this:
Starting a new habit or plan, and about 3 weeks in, you SO BADLY want to be distracted with some other, more exciting plan. oops.
But I chose this for a reason. And I’m done with giving up on my goals.
This is where Ayurveda offers the word ABHYASA.
”The practice of practice”.
In yoga + Ayurveda, abhyāsa means practice that is steady over time.
Not perfect practice.
Not aesthetic practice.
Not “I did it every day without fail” practice.
Just… practice.
The showing up.
The messing up.
The returning.
The choosing again.
Abhyāsa is powerful because it meets you exactly at the moment your mind gets bored — and says:
“Stay.
This is where the real shift happens.”
It’s easy to feel inspired on Day 1.
It’s easy to feel motivated when you make a plan.
But something changes inside you when you show up after the sparkle fades.
That’s the part of the journey where your nervous system learns safety.
Where your digestion stabilizes.
Where your energy evens out.
Where your mind softens because it finally trusts you to keep showing up.
The Week 3 wobble is normal.
Your brain wants a dopamine hit from something new.
Abhyāsa teaches you how to find the dopamine in the familiar.
In the “I did it again today.”
In the quiet progress that doesn’t scream for attention.
In the clarity that grows when you stay with one thing long enough to actually feel it.
So if your protocol is getting boring?
Perfect.
You’re right on schedule.
Stay with it.
This is where the gold is. And it’s where you start becoming the next version of yourself.
If this idea of “staying with yourself” is speaking to you… come practice it with us. Inside Practical Ayurveda, you’ll create your own 28-day personalized protocol - the handful of practices your body actually needs right now.
It’s amazing what shifts when you stop chasing the next thing and start staying with what works.
