30 Second Ayurvedic practice for the coming of Spring!

Ayurveda for Early Spring

I don’t care if you tell me it’s too early -

SPRING IS IN THE AIR I TELL YOU!

And I’m STOKED to share one of my favorite early spring practices with you in today’s video.

Because this tool - One of my all time fave Ayurvedic tools - isn't ALWAYS recommended.

... like everything in Ayurveda - whether you should be doing something often depends on your Dosha (your Ayurvedic mind/body type). For folks with excess vata (aka very dry skin), you might opt for doing this practice with bare hands or a cloth instead of a brush.

As spring approaches, almost every body is asking for some stimulation! Dry brushing is a wonderful, small-step method to get you ready for a vibrant season ahead.

Tune in to today’s video to learn WHY early spring is a good time to pick up this oh-so-satisfying habit.

No time to watch? Here’s the gist:

Ayurvedic dry-brushing, called garshana (pronounced gar-shun-uh), promotes lymphatic cleansing and is a powerful way to support the removal of AMA (toxic build-up) from the body.

This technique is recommended for people who have signs of ama, which may include fatigue, sluggishness, feeling physical or mental dullness, constipation, and a taxed immune system.

Sooo… all of us, as we emerge from winter. #amiright.

And it feels so good. Like, out of this world invigorating.

PRO TIPS:

  • Dry brushing is a great practice to include in a morning OR evening routine.

  • In the morning, before you get dressed, brush from the feet upward, stroking toward the heart, to increase circulation/ blood flow. Do circles on the joints, and strokes on the bones.

  • As part of an evening practice, before you put on your jams, work from the crown down to the toes, stroking away from the heart and down, to trigger relaxation response.

  • You can find dry brushes at the natural food stores and online, but the best prices I’ve found are at Homesense or Winners (in Kelowna anyway).

I highly recommend this habit. It’s just the most simple self-support tool, with so so many benefits.
